By India Today Sports Desk: Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting said that there is more than one way to skin a cat following Australia’s thrilling victory over England at Edgbaston. Australia beat England by two wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match Ashes 2023 Test series.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Ponting said Australia’s win shows there’s more than one way to skin a cat, insisting that Australia’s method worked at Edgbaston. Australia chased down 174 runs on Day 5 to beat England in an evenly-contested event.
“By no means am I saying that England's method is wrong by any means, I have loved watching them play. But it just goes to show there is more than one way to skin a cat. This is a long and hard game. Australia's method has stood up and it has worked,” said Ponting.

Australia were given a target of 281 runs to chase in the final innings, having bowled England out for 273 on Day 4. A brilliant half-century from Usman Khawaja and a captain’s knock from Pat Cummins guided the Aussies to a historic win in Birmingham.
Khawaja was Australia’s standout batter throughout the course of the first Test. Incredibly, the 36-year-old batted on all five days of the Test match, hitting a century in the first innings, which was his first on English soil, and topped it up with a gritty 197-ball 65 in the second innings.
Nathan Lyon was Australia’s most-effective bowler, claiming four wickets each in both innings. With this performance, Lyon also became the first bowler to go past the 150-wicket mark in the World Test Championships.
With this win, Australia took a 1-0 lead in the five-match Ashes 2023 series with the next match set to be played at Lord’s on June 28.
